Empathy Stage

In this stage, the researchers generate questions in each quadrant of the Empathy Map. The four quadrants of the Empathy Map are the following: Think and Feel, Say and Do, Hear, and See. Questions are Open-ended questions because the participants’ personal experiences as well as their thoughts and opinions are taken in this stage. Here, there are few questions that are answerable by yes or no, but it is followed up by another question so that there will be an explanation or supporting detail on their initial answer. The Empathy Map is completed after observing and interviewing the City Pound.

Define Stage

In this stage, the researchers identify who is the main user of their product including their need. They also provide their insight afterwards. The researchers came up with this table by combining their knowledge about the user they are designing it for, his/her need, and their insights from the empathy stage. They determine what really is the need of the user so that significant solution will be made in due course. They synthesized their observation about their user which is the city pound.
